The Truth About Sensa
… The company’s weight loss evidence is based on a “clinical” study (not to be confused with a clinical trial, which is the gold standard for research) done by Hirsch. This study has never...
Sensa delivers a truly unique brand of methodology to the weight loss table. Instead of increasing the metabolism or blocking fat or cutting down the carbs, Sensa activates and turns off the “hunger control switch” in your brain.
Dr. Hirsch (a Neurologist and Psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of smell and taste loss) and the people at Sensa designed their product to work with your sense of smell to help you feel full faster and eat less. No pills, no stimulants, no special foods to buy. Still confused?
The theory behind Sensa is somewhat simple. As you eat, smell and taste receptors send messages to your brain which release hormones that tell your body it’s time to stop eating. A phenomenon called “Sensory Specific Satiety.” By enhancing smell, Sensa’s main ingredient, the “Tastants,” were designed to help speed up the process and trigger your “I feel full” signal, so you eat less and feel more satisfied.
Sensa is pretty easy to use. Sprinkle it on food before you eat and let the Tastants do their thing. Your family wont need to make separate meals and going out to your favorite restaurant won’t be like cheating because you can use Sensa there as well.
• Convenient product that does not come in a pill or mix form
• There are no food restrictions or calorie counting or weigh-ins or skipping meals
• Eat what and when you want, there are no lifestyle changes other than sprinkling Sensa
• No jittery or dangerous “yo-yo” diet side effects
• The main ingredient or “Tastant” is a chemical compound called Maltodextrin. This could be a potential safety issue since Maltodextrin is comparable to MSG
• There is no metabolic component to the product. Basically, Sensa does not help burn calories.
• Takes Sensa anywhere from 10 – 20 minutes to actually start activating the “hunger control switch” and not the few seconds it takes to sprinkle on food
After tasting Sensa sprinkled on our food, we know exactly why this might make some people stop eating their meal. There is a salty sweet after-taste that could be a deterrent if continuously ingested. However, a good many of us liked the taste enough to finish our whole meal. Think of deliciously greasy chinese takeout with loads of MSG. Tastes good going down until after the meal and you realize you need a gallon of water to manage. But, if chinese takeout isn’t your thing then Sensa might work for you in this respect.
But this brings to light a perplexing dilemma. Since it takes Sensa about 10-20 minutes to work, there is not enough time to activate the “hunger control switch.” Realistically, meals at home average about 10-20 minutes unless you are dining out. Who really eats breakfast or lunch for more than 20 minutes? And the fact that some of us liked the MSG-esque taste, did not help prolong the meal time.
Yes, Sensa’s approach to weight loss is very unusual. Activating the “hunger control switch” in our brain is a good idea in theory. But when it comes down to it, the practicality of Sensa escapes us.
Another word of caution. After checking the online message boards and social media sites, we found that Sensa has a good number of complaints about a free trial scam. 30 days is not really 30 days. With processing and shipping transit time, it is more like a 15 day trial, so be careful when ordering.
